    Hot Foiling FAQ

    What is hot foiling?

    Hot foiling uses a heated plate to press foil onto cardstock as it rolls through your die cutting machine. The result is crisp, shiny linework that ink and embossing powder cannot match.

    Does Glimmer II work with my Platinum 6?

    Yes. The Glimmer hot foil system works with Platinum, Platinum 6, and the Sizzix Big Shot Plus, Big Kick, and Switch. We always recommend you check with your machine's manual.

    What is the difference between Glimmer Plates and Press & Foil plates?

    Press & Foil plates are the newer version of Glimmer Plates. Both work with your Glimmer machine, but only Press & Foil plates also work with the BetterPress System.

    What foil can I use?

    Use Glimmer Foil or any foil labeled "thermal foil" or "heat activated foil." Foil transfer sheets and toner foils do not work with hot foiling.

    Can I use my wafer-thin dies?

    Many metal wafer-thin dies (0.8mm) foil well, though some designs transfer better than others, so test first. Dies are slightly thinner than foil plates, so add a cardstock shim or two. Ensure the cutting blade is face up, or you will cut into your heat pad.
